Dequervains Tenosynovitis It's a painful inflammation of tendons on the side of the wrist at the base of the thumb. Causes: chronic overuse injury, direct trauma leading to scar tissue formation, inflammatory arthritis. Patients typically report painful abduction of the thumb & decreases grip strength. Activities such as golfing, playing piano, carpentry, office workers, musician, carrying a child, repetitive gripping grasping, clenching, pinching of objects. Symptoms : constant aching, burning & pulling sensation, swelling, tenderness. Treatment : ice /heat packs, massage, stretching, improving range of motion, increasing strength, home exs, ultrasound , laser, TENS.
